TotalEnergies' ambition is to become the responsible energy major, providing reliable, affordable and clean energy to as many people as possible.

In the UK, we will work with the government to meet its target of net-zero CO2 emissions by 2050, by concentrating on four areas of strategic focus:

Natural gas. We were the first major operator in the UK to meet ISO50001 for monitoring our emissions, we continue to make progress reducing flaring and venting and we are also looking to electrify offshore operations where possible.

Power & renewables. We have invested in the Seagreen wind farm off the east coast of Scotland and are building the Erebus floating wind farm off the coast of Wales. We are also investing in electric vehicle charging.

Energy efficient oil products. We are increasing the energy efficiency of our lubricants and solvents and introducing new product ranges that use renewable biopolymers.

Carbon Capture Utilisation & Storage (CCUS) and Hydrogen. CCUS and hydrogen have great potential in the UK and we are partnering in projects on Teesside and in Scotland.

Offshore Wind Energy

In 2020 TotalEnergies moved decisively into the UK Offshore Wind market.

  • In the Celtic Sea off the coast of south-west Wales, we are developing two floating offshore wind projects called Erebus and Valorous with our partners Simple Blue Energy.

  • Off the coast of Lincolnshire, we are working with our partners GIG on the 1.5GW Outer Dowsing offshore wind farm.

  • In Scotland we are working with SSE Renewables in SeaGreen, which at 1.1GW will be the largest offshore wind farm in the UK when it comes online in late 2022.

  • We are also bidding in the ScotWind leasing round with partners GIG and RIDG.

TotalEnergies has been committed to the UK, and especially Scotland, since the 1960s. From the first exploration wells in the North Sea, to today’s ambitious plans for offshore wind, we have found that the UK offers the skills, infrastructure and supply chain needed to make a success of major energy projects.
